3 Bizarre recent scientific discoveries that will surprise you

If you have not heard of anything weird this week, this blog will compensate for that. Oh, and if you have been listening to truckloads of strange things all week, this one is going to be the worst of them. Amidst all the weirdly crazy stuff in the world, there are a few things that make you lose the plot. At least the first two facts mentioned in this blog will do it.

If you cannot wait to unleash the facts we have in store for you, without wasting any time at all, let us get straight into it!

Drinking ginger ale on a ride may make it difficult for your body to break down the sugars. So, you may end up feeling worse.

Fact 1- Drinking pee and ginger ale are useless for motion sickness

If you have ever traveled on a camel in a desert, on a bus for a road trip, or a car to go rolling up the mountain tops, you’ll know how pissing off motion sickness can be. Suffering from motion sickness can make you feel extremely dizzy, down, and nauseous. But mind you, this isn’t a recent discovery.

Motion Sickness has been lurking around ever since ancient times. Naturally, the remedies were quite different back then, though. People related motion sickness with all types of body parts during those days, mainly the stomach, liver, and brains. But the truth lies in our brains alone.

What happens is that when you are traveling that way, your eyes think that they are resting, but the inner ear believes that the body is moving. Due to this confusion, the brain begins to feel fuzzy, and you start feeling motion sickness. That is why in the olden days, people tried many bizarre ways to deal with this. Drinking children’s pee and ginger ale were the most common remedies of all for them. And yes, people have genuinely done that.

Even today, many people believe that chugging a whole glass of ginger ale and drinking pee may help. But the truth is far from that. Researchers have proved that it is best to avoid both of them. Drinking ginger ale on a ride may make it difficult for your body to break down the sugars. So, you may end up feeling worse.

Fact 2- Some animals sleep with one eye open

Most people who see some animals sleeping with one eye open believe it to be dead. But when they get closer, they get attacked as the animal wakes up feeling threatened. So, they aren’t dead. That is just how they sleep. One of the animals that do that is a Sperm Whale who researchers recently studied for their movements and habitat.

Many other species have this type of odd sleeping behavior. Dolphins, Whales, and even seals may exhibit such sleeping patterns. Even horses show this type of behavior. But upon further research and experience, researchers conclude that this is a type of wakeful sleep that these creatures perform to keep an eye out for potential threats. So, if they see any predator coming forward, they can quickly get up and run for their life. However, if they slept with both eyes shut like any other normal creature, they may fail to escape during a predator attack.

Fact 3- Humans are worse than toxic radiation for wildlife

This may sound not very comfortable but what is true is true. We all remember the 35-year-old Chernobyl Power Plant disaster that had threatened numerous human lives and properties potentially. Although only two people were killed directly during the incident, the accident led to several indirect potential deaths later. This happened due to extreme radiation exposure that was very harmful to human health. That is why it was estimated that nearly 9,000 people would die later on in life due to excessive radiation exposure.

Right after that, the 19-mile radius that surrounded the Chernobyl plant was abandoned, and nearly 35,000 people were forever relocated. But it was the animals whose lives were in potential danger as they were stuck in these contaminated regions with no help.

But after the late 80s, researchers continue to keep track of the local critters to observe them bounce back. Surprisingly, now some of these animals seem to do relatively better in these evacuation zones. Although radiation is hazardous for them, the fact that being surrounded by humans could potentially take your life is worse.
